Rose Glitter Tattoo Card

You've probably seen some glitter tattoos on TV, but did you know that Art Glitter now carries that body glue and tattoo stencils?  A couple of weeks ago I did a post to show how easy it is to do the body glitter tattoo, but now I have a great way to re-use the stencil.

For this project I used:   Art Glitter Rose Tattoo Stencil (used), Ultra-fine Glitter (#299 - Celery, #48 -  Emerald, #324 - Country Red, #355 - Sunrise, and #86 - Angel Dust)  Clear Scraps mini-album page - Deco, Tombow multi-purpose glue, spray adhesive, Beacon Zip-dry adhesive, Lime green Copic Marker, Pink Chevron paper and Pink paper from Basic Grey's True Love collection, Card blank (from Staples), Stamp from Red Rubber Designs (Friendship Blocks), Stazon Black Ink, Rhinestone swirl from Want2Scrap's Build Your Own Bling, Light Green swiss dot Ribbon, Viva Decor Glitter Pen - Lime, a couple of small paintbrushes, a soft brush or make-up brush.

Remove the protective plastic from the acrylic page and center the tattoo stencil.  Press down completely to make sure there are no ripples or gaps between the stencil and acrylic.

Put a few drops of Tombow multi-purposed glue in the open areas of the stencil and brush out with paint brush.  Be sure to cover all of the exposed acrylic with glue.

Remove the stencil and set aside for future use.

Once glue is dry (clear), dip a clean, dry brush into Emerald Green glitter and pick up just a little in your brush.  Carefully brush it onto the wide ind of the leaves.  Clean the brush by brushing on paper towel or cloth.  Dip it into Celery glitter and brush the glitter onto the rest of the leaves.  Clean your brush again, and brush the Country Red glitter on the inside edges of the rose petals.

Brush Sunrise Glitter over the remaining areas of the rose.  Use a soft brush or make-up brush to brush away excess glitter.

Turn acrylic over and spray with spray adhesive and dust with Angel Dust Glitter.

Still working on the back of the acrylic, use a lime Copic marker to color the glitter around the edge.

Assemble the card by layering pink and pink chevron paper.  Wrap with lime ribbon.
Add sentiment stamped on a piece of pink paper.
Glue Pink stack to the card base.
Glue Acrylic piece in place.
Add Swirl of Rhinestones from Want2Scrap
Add bow at the top corner of the acrylic.
Finish with dots of Glitter Pen in corners of pink card and on the points of the acrylic.

Pot-O-Gold Card

Are you ready to get your Irish on?  For St. Patty's Day, I've turned a Clear Scraps Send it Clear Cupcake Card into an over-flowing pot of gold!

Begin by painting the backside of the "Pot" with black acrylic paint.  Then create a rainbow with alcohol inks.

Use a felt pad alcohol ink applicator.  Apply alcohol inks in Red, Yellow, Green and Blue in strips across the pad - allowing the colors to bleed together slightly.

Working on the back side of the card, daub on the rainbow, moving left to right in an arch.  Use rubbing alcohol on paper towel or soft cloth to clean up the edges.

On the front of the card, use an old paintbrush to apply a generous layer of Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the top sections of the cupcake/pot o' gold.  While the glue is still wet, cover with Art Glitter Dazzlers - Treasure.  Shake off the excess and set aside to dry.  Repeat on the other half of the cupcake.

I finished the inside of the card by adding two tones of green paper to the back section of the card and a Clear Scraps Accent Embellishment that had been colored with Green and Teal alcohol inks and stamped with as St Pat's Day message.  I added gold pearls to the embellishment with Viva Decor Pearl Pen.  The fancy gold corners are stickers from Mark Richardson.

Happy St. Patty's Day to All!!

Glitter Tattoos - So Easy!!

You may have seen glitter tattoos advertised on TV, but did you know that Art Glitter now has Body Glue and Tattoo stencils?  Now you can use all the wonderful colors of Art Glitter Ultra Fine glitter to create your own glittering body art!!  Here is a quick tutorial on creating a glittering tattoo.  It's so easy, I did it on my own hand!!

You will need:  Art Glitter Body Glue, Tattoo Stencil, Ultra-fine Glitter (I used #299 - Celery, #48 -  Emerald, #324 - Country Red, and #355 - Sunrise)  A couple of paint brushes, and a soft make-up brush.

Remove the white backing from the stencil and place it on clean, dry skin.  Remove the clear protective coating and make sure that the black stencil is firmly in place with no gaps or buckles.

Drop a few drops of Body Glue inside the stencil and spread with paint brush.  You just need a thin coat.  The thicker you put it on, the longer it will take to dry.

While the paint is still wet, remove the stencil.  Wait for the glue to dry before you start to glitter.  The glue is dry when it turns clear.

Dip a small clean, dry paint brush into Emerald Green and brush lightly onto the broad end of the leaves.  Clean the brush by rubbing on a towel or cloth. - Don't wet it.  Dip the brush into your second color - the celery green - and brush the tips of the leaves.

Repeat this process for the rose, using the Country Red for the inside of the rose petals, and Sunrise to highlight the outer petals.

Use a make-up brush to brush the excess glitter away.

The tattoo will last 7 - 10 days with proper care.  Visit the Art Glitter site for more information about care and removal of the tattoos!

Happy Glittering!!!

Personalize it! Glittered Purse Hanger

Ever been out to a restaurant and find it hard to find a place to put your purse?  The floor may be a little sketchy - the back of your seat isn't safe, and all the seats at the table are taken. These purse hangers are SO handy for just such an occassion.  They make great gifts for teachers, co-workers, friends & family.  Getting married?  These are great for your bridesmaids.

You will need:
Blank Purse hangers - (I found these on Ebay, but I think Hobby Lobby carries something similar) Art Glitter Ultra Fine Glitter (any color), Globecraft Memories Glastique Gloss, Alphabet stickers - smaller than 1" in diameter.

Begin by putting a puddle (about the size of a quarter) of Glastique in the center of the purse hanger.

Add about 1/2 teaspoon of your favorite color of Art Glitter and carefully mix into the Glastique with a toothpick.

Use the toothpick to spread the glitter mixture evenly over the bottom of the purse hanger and set aside to dry.

Once dry, add desired letter sticker.  Be sure to press it down completely so no air bubbles will form under it.

Add another layer of Glastique, completely filling the recessed area.  Set aside to dry over night on a level surface.  The thicker you apply the Glastique, the longer it will take to dry.  It is set when it is completely clear.

Tada!

How easy was that?!!

Funky Upcycled Denim Cuff Bracelet

At the beginning of the school year, I bought my daughter several pairs of jeans.  By Christmas they were all to short!  She is also pretty rough on jeans and several pair were too ripped up to even send to Goodwill...so....I had wanted to work on some upcycled projects, and the denim I was about to throw out seemed like the perfect material for a fun glittering fiber project.

For this project I used:
Materials:  Denim from old pair of kids jeans, a cardboard core from a roll of packing tape, Blue acrylic paint, Acrylic sealer (brush on type), Acrylic sealer (Spray on type)  Art Glitter Fabric Dries Clear Adhesive (FDCA), Art Glitter Ultrafine glitter:  #117 Goldilocks, #65 Old Gold, #48 Emerald, #249 Woodberry, Embossing powder, Art Glitter Fantasy Fiber - English Ivy.

Tools and supplies:  Iron, Teflon sheet or parchment paper, Sizzix Big Shot, Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers Die, assorted bottle lids and caps, paint brushes

Cut a section about 1" - 1 1/2" out of the tape core and gently bend it into the size and shape needed to get on and off your wrist and wear comfortably.

Paint the inside and edges of the core with blue acrylic paint and seal by brushing a layer or two of acrylic sealer.

Used Sizzix and Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers Die to cut flowers from excess denim.

Paint a little Art Glitter Fabric Dries Clear Adhesive on the tips of the flower petals.

Sprinkle a mix of Art Glitter Ultrafine glitters on the adhesive, one color at a time.

Repeat this on each of the flowers.

Spray the front of the flowers with clear acrylic sealer and gently press the flowers into various caps to give them a little shape, and set them aside to let them dry.
Cut a piece of denim that is long enough to go around the outside of the core + 1/2" and about 1/2" wider than the core.  You want to cut with the grain of the fabric (not on the bias), so this piece was cut by cutting straight across the back of one leg.

Run it through the washer and dryer with a load of clothes to fray the edges

Sprinkle the fabric with embossing powder.  Any embossing powder should work, but will show through the fibers slightly, so you'll want to pick a complimentary color.  This one has gold sparkles that show through for a little extra sparkle.

Position clumps of Art Glitter Fantasy Fiber over the fabric.

Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper and iron according to directions.  I actually held the iron too long in one spot and got a little more copper color there - see the iron imprint to the left?  Since I liked the variation of color I wasn't too worried about that.  But note that if your colors are changing to a lot of copper tones, you are probably holding the iron on too long, or have it too hot.

Trim off the extra fibers that are extending past the edge of the denim.

Use FDCA to glue the layers of the flower together and glue the flower to the bracelet piece.  I decided not to use the daisy shaped piece in my flower, so I'll save that for another project.  Glue a button or other bling in the center of the flower.

Use FDCA to adhere the denim bracelet to the tape core

Glittered Christmas Light Bracelet

Today I have a fun and relatively easy Christmas project combining polymer clay are Art Glitter.
These glittered Christmas lights could be used in decorations or as embellishments for mixed media projects or in this case for jewelry.
For this project I used:
Pardo Jewerly Clay in Ruby, Peridot and Gold
Art Glitter - Ultrafine Opaque - #1 - True Red, Ultrafine Transparent Neon - #241 - Fresh Lime, and Ultrafine Opaque - #65 - Old Gold
Antique brass spacer beads from Metal Gallery
Antique brass eye rings
Antique brass chain and toggle clasp
Art Glitter - Designer Dries Clear Adhesive (DDCA)
Begin by cutting one ball of Pardo clay into fourths.

Roll each of the quartered sections into a ball and then pinch and taper the end to form a teardrop shape.

Trim eye pins to about 3/4" long so that when they are inserted through the spacer bead and into the clay, they will not come through the bottom of the clay.  Insert the eye pins to secure the spacer beads to the fat end of the teardrops.

Roll the clay in glitter corresponding to the color of the clay.

Repeat with the other two colors.  And bake according to clay instructions.  Be careful not to over bake!
After baking, pull the pins back out of the clay, dip the pins in DDCA and re-insert into the clay for a secure hold.  To keep the glitter from shedding, brush on a layer of gloss acrylic sealer and let dry.

To finish, add jump rings and attach the "lights" to brass chain.  Attach a toggle claps to each end of the bracelet chain.

TIP:  The transparent glitter is a little lighter in texture than the opaque glitters and when baking may "disappear" into the clay if you over bake.  If this happens, simply let the bulb cool and then brush on a light layer of DDCA and reapply the glitter.  (Do not re-bake)

Happy Holidays!
